Mechanical Utilities Engineer

About the Job

  • Expert in the engineering, design, and layout of multiple utility systems and their associated equipment including but not limited to compressed air, steam, condensate, water, desuperheaters, deaerators, glycol systems, chemical treatment, bulk chemical storage and possibly CIP systems.
  • Needs to have experience with utility piping, instrumentation, and piping & instrument diagrams (P&IDs). 
  • Carry out assigned tasks within budget and schedule.
  • Establish user requirements, analyze system performance requirements and  define design criteria,
  • Must be able to size piping and equipment
  • Perform utility studies
  • Equipment experience to include pumps, compressors, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pressure vessels, shell & tube heat exchangers, air cooled heat exchangers, fans, electric motors and agitators.
  • Prepare technical specifications based on input received from other disciplines.
  • Conduct interface management between related systems. 
  • Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates.
  • Prepare or provide input to 3D models and 2D mechanical drawings.
  • Manage small capital and maintenance projects (as required).
  • Completes independent studies, analyses, interpretations and conclusions.
  • Ability to review client specifications, prepare equipment data sheets, prepare equipment inquiry/purchase requisitions & technical bid evaluations, review vendor drawings & data, and interface with other disciplines.
  • Prepare the Mechanical portion of work packages. 
  • Good working knowledge of API, ASME, ANSI, PIP, MSS and other process industry codes and standards is necessary.
  • Will have client and vendor interface, so must have good communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills is a plus and must be a team player.
  • Must have working knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus.
  • The ability to generate clear and accurate field notes is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer registration desirable.
